Tru2way and other interactive services and applications once again made CableNET 2009 a must see element of The Cable Show held in April at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center. CableNET '09 also featured demonstrations of other applications and services such as online broadband video, social networking, advanced advertising, enhanced TV binary interchange format (EBIF)-based displays and home networking. CableNET is a technology showcase that is co-sponsored by CableLabs® and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), and offers a hands-on experience with some of the most advanced broadband content, services, and applications.
The relatively new cable interactive video tru2way brand was a major highlight of the CableNET 2008 exhibit held as part of The Cable Show '08 held in May at the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. CableNET is a technology showcase that is co-sponsored by CableLabs® and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), and offers a hands-on experience with many of the most exciting content, services, and applications. In addition to forming a major presence at the CableNET pavilion, tru2way technology, which is the retail brand for the OpenCable™ (hardware) and OCAP™ (software) technical initiatives. CableNET '08 also featured 145 megabit-per-second download speeds, broadband wireless, interactive advertising, Internet-focused applications and services; and advanced PacketCable™ 2.0-based technologies.
The CableNET '07 technology showcase in Las Vegas as part of The Cable Show 2007 marked the 15th year that the "exhibit within an exhibit" has been part of a cable industry convention. Highlights of the more than 35 exhibiting companies included OpenCable Application Platform software and hardware and remote home security and monitoring applications. Also featured in the booth was pre-DOCSIS 3.0 applications that featured 145 megabit-per-second download speeds of Internet Protocol high definition television; advanced PacketCable 2.0-based technologies as well as user-generated content applications.
In 2006, CableNET featured an early glimpse of a two-way plug-and-play advanced technology demonstration in Atlanta. The unprecedented plug-and-play display was a collection of demonstrations of the latest OpenCable™ technology using integrated digital devices and set tops that are displaying advanced interactive services. Also shown as early indicators of technology to come were downloadable conditional access, OpenCable Unidirectional Receivers (OCUR) and advanced multimedia services running on PacketCable 2.0-based displays.
Held in San Francisco as part of NCTA's The 2005 National Show, this 13th version of CableNET featured displays of broadband wireless, OpenCable™ Applications Platform (OCAP™), interactive services and Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP). Among the 45 demonstrating companies at this year's CableNET are the American Film Institute and its Digital Content Lab development partners; and the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) will display advanced multimedia services.
The 2004 demonstration contained 50 companies showcasing advanced technologies. Many of these companies were new to the cable broadband industry and effectively used CableNET as a vehicle in which to demonstrate their innovative concepts to top technical and business executives as part of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) national convention.
CableNET '03—Imagine That, was held as part of The Western Show at the Anaheim Convention Center December 2–5, 2003. It was comprised of about 50 broadband demonstrations, including 14 in its interactive centerpiece. In its 11th year, CableNET magnified the true value of broadband services by once again offering a hands-on experience with many of the most exciting interactive services available. Among the demonstrations were multimedia distribution systems, and Go2Broadband(SM), who demonstrated the consumer Web site used to support the cable industry's latest service offerings. The exhibit included displays of true broadband services and examples of how the evolving broadband technology has expanded to include more business-to-business solutions that keep cable services innovative and competitive. Because the industry is so technology oriented, CableNET was a destination that the media, government agencies, VIPs, industry executives, and many of The Western Show's attendees made a point to visit. The entire CableNET '03 exhibit covered about 10,000 square feet on the Anaheim Convention Center show floor.
CableNET '02—Turn on the Future, was part of the BroadbandPlus (The New Western Show) at the Anaheim Convention Center, December 3–6, 2002. About 60 broadband demonstrations were included in the exhibit, including 14 as part of its interactive centerpiece. The entire CableNET '02 exhibit covered about 10,000 square feet on the Anaheim Convention Center show floor.
CableNET '01—Broadband Revolution, was held at the The Western Show November 27–30, 2001 at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California. It exhibited the latest in broadband technologies and services, sponsored by CableLabs and the California Cable Television Association (CCTA), and included 10,000 square feet of exhibit space, with over 60 companies represented. With its nine consecutive years of giving hundreds of companies the opportunity to demonstrate their products and services to the broadband industry, it was truly a “must see” exhibit at the 2001 Western Show. This easy-to-navigate collection of the latest new technologies gave companies (regardless of size) the opportunity to display their latest approach to improving the cable television industry and acted as an incubator and showcase of new technologies, products, and services. Because the industry is so technology oriented, CableNET was a destination that the media, government agencies, VIPs, industry executives, and many of the 30,000 attendees made a point to visit. CableNET® Interactive™ was dedicated to interactive content, services and applications and showcased and demonstrated interactivity supported by the cable platform.
CableNET '00—WHAT'S NEXT. Over 65 companies displayed the latest technological advances, including wireless connectivity to the Internet anywhere in the home. The CableNET exhibit at the Western Show was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, November 28–December 1, 2000.
As a part of the Western Show convention, CableNET '99—Outside the Box—took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from December 15-17, 1999, where more than 70 companies demonstrated high-speed cable modems, digital set-top boxes and broadband Internet phone services. Co-sponsored by the California Cable Television Association (CCTA) and CableLabs, the CableNET '99 exhibit was an educational forum demonstrating the potential of the cable industry's hybrid fiber/coaxial systems— and the expanding availability of video, telecommunications, and entertainment applications deployed on cable systems.
CableNET '98—Plug and Play—was presented by the California Cable Television Association and by CableLabs and was held in Anaheim, California, December 1–4, 1998. It comprised about 8,000 square feet of exhibition space, and featured approximately 60 companies at 90 pedestals that showcased and demonstrated interoperable service delivery options.
CableNET '97—Bandwidth Rules—was presented by the California Cable Television Association and by CableLabs, held in Anaheim, California, December 9–12, 1997. The exhibit comprised 6,000 square feet of exhibition space, and featured over 40 exhibitors who demonstrated and explained products, services, and hardware that work on a hybrid fiber/coax network. The exhibit reflected the emergence of cable modems, high-speed data, telephony, digital video services, and other digital services out of the lab and into commercial rollouts.
CableNET '96—Real Ideas. Real Results—was held in Anaheim, California, December 11–13, 1996, and was presented by the California Cable Television Association and by CableLabs. It comprised 6,000 square feet of exhibition space, and featured 36 exhibitors who demonstrated and explained products, services, and hardware that work on a hybrid fiber/coax network. The exhibit reflected the emergence of high-speed data, telephony, and other digital services out of the lab and into commercial rollouts.
The first exhibit (CableNET '93) was 2,700 square feet in size and featured 24 companies. EDS, Nortel, Unisys, and other original participating companies donated their personnel and exhibit property to help construct and staff the booth. The following year, booth space increased to 5,000 square feet and included over 50 demonstrating companies. Over the next few years, CableNET continued to grow to occupy over 10,000 square feet of exhibition space and feature the most advanced products and services demonstrated by over 100 of the most progressive companies in the industry.
